Figuring out what it's all about

What matters most to a leader?

I used to think it was communication.

Say the right things, get your message across, and people will follow. But that illusion shatters quickly.

Because communication without comprehension is just noise. You can be clear, confident, even charismatic - but if the other person doesn’t get what you mean, it all falls flat.

Then I thought maybe it’s comprehension that matters. Listening better. Understanding faster. But comprehension without perspective? That’s just shallow understanding. You might hear the words, but miss the world they come from.

And even perspective - the ability to see things from different angles - can lead you nowhere, unless there’s wisdom to anchor it. Wisdom is what filters the noise. It helps you know when to speak, when to wait, when to push, and when to let go.

Here’s the truth:
These four - Communication. Comprehension. Perspective. Wisdom. - they’re not separate.

They’re a loop.
A system.
A way of being.

Break one, and the rest suffer.

So these days, I ask myself:

  • Am I being understood, or just heard?
  • Do I really get where they’re coming from?
  • Am I judging or seeking to see more clearly?
  • Is this response driven by ego or experience?

Still figuring it out. But I’m closer now than I’ve ever been.
